Cops selling T-shirts to raise money for slain officer's son

As has become a solemn law-enforcement tradition, a group of cops has begun selling T-shirts to honor slain East Washington police Officer John David Dryer and to raise money for the autistic teenage son he leaves behind.The back of the shirt features both a police badge and that of a wildlife conservation office along with the words "Remembered with pride for his commitment to his family and his community."The front bears an East Washington badge masked by a black band. Officer Dryer had worked for the part-time force for less than a year-and-a-half when he was shot to death during a traffic stop on Dec. 19.

The cost is $20 for a long-sleeved shirt and $10 for short-sleeved. Tee-Berries, the Bridgeville business producing the shirt, will print as many as demand dictates.Historically, fallen officer commemorative T-shirts have sold en masse. Tens of thousands of shirts honoring three Pittsburgh officers killed in April 2009 sold to law enforcement agencies around the country and to local residents who still wear them.The company also made a shirt for slain Lower Burrell Officer Derek Kotecki in October.

Anyone can buy the shirt on a new website.The shirt sales are part of a larger fundraising effort for Officer Dryer's son, Noted designer unveils latest dresses, flagship store,Benjamin, and other autistic children.Police officers from several local departments will be on hand at tonight's Pittsburgh Penguins game at the Consol Energy Center to collect donations.The team said that officers will be accepting donations at all three gates begining at 6 p.m. The game against the Carolina Hurricanes starts at 7 p.m.
